•there are lots of ways to manage coasts by simply being organised
          •deltas (mangrove swamps) - vegetation
          •afforestation
          •warning signs
          •education of evacuation
•monitoring methods and prediction (GPS warning)
          •appropriate building design
          •wealthy emergency services

•there are also practical ways in order to prevent coastal erosion
•some coastal defence measure are hard

•Groynes
 (Brighton)

•prevents
 longshore drift

•beach can
 therefore reduce
 wave energy
•relatively cheap

•keeps beach
 tourism

•keeps most of the
 beach
•maintenance

•weaker

•hinders walking

 elsewhere

 (Scarborough)
•protects buildings
 and others behind

•breaks and diverts
 wave energy
•long lasting

•protects real
 estate
•ugly

•expensive

•wind can undermine

•Revetment
 (Portsmouth)

•breaks up and
 absorbs wave
 energy
•looks natural

•cheaper than sea
 wall
•ugly

•needs
 maintenance

•inaccessible

•bad protection
